There are many wonderful older, recycled and second hands purebred dogs that need a good permanent home. However, don't get conned into thinking that all rescue dogs are going to be 'grateful' for being rescued. They may have issues to work with but most dogs live for today, it is we humans who get caught up in their 'stories' and hold them back. As there are incredible dedicated breeders, there are awesome experienced rescue people (sometimes they are the same folks), who take their time, energy and finances to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome their chosen breeds. Some also work in all-breed rescue. This workshop will help you identify the differences between All-Breed, Breed, private rescues and assist you in deciding which may be a good match for your further research on bringing a rescue dog into your home. We will discuss the difference between abandoned dogs, owner surrenders, dogs that have been purchased by rescuers from puppymills and pet stores and why this is controversial within the rescue community. We'll also consider feral and dogs that have been seized by SPCA or law-enforcement officials and whether these difficult cases are practical in a family setting. The workshop will also briefly touch on random bred (of no certain origin) and mixed breed (two certified and identifiable purebred breeds). This is the area of expertise of SPCA and animal shelters and you should refer directly to them if you are considering adopting a mixed or random bred dog. Sadly, they have hundreds of one-of-a-kind dogs for you to choose from. Our focus and expertise is purebred dogs only.
