Introduction
Written by Valerie Brideau

I have been dedicated to the responsible promotion and the protection of the purebred dog since I met a Doberman Pinscher in the late 1960s at a political rally.  It was love and respect at first sight. Five minutes after purchasing my first home in 1975, the Doberman joined my life and has always held a special place in my heart as a family companion.

Background:

Since the 70s, the Brussels Griffon, Japanese Chin, Tibetan Spaniel and the Pekingese have been of part of my life.  I have been involved in foster, rescue, and rehabilitation of neglected and abused dogs.    While my breeding programs has always been small, the study of my favourite breeds has been extensive.  I treasure having one of the most complete libraries on the Pekingese and the Brussels Griffon.

September 2010 will be the 10th anniversary of my dedication to the Brussels Griffon.  Starting with one of the Breed's first mailling list and its only pedigree database, they were later incorporated within - The Brussels Griffon Forum - with brought the global community together.  I have had the pleasure of watching my clients garner #1 in the Breed and All Breed USA, win multiple Best in Show, Best in Specialties and take Group Placements at Westminster Kennel Club.

The bottom line, however, over all the years has been my focus on education and the responsible promotion and dedicated protection of all purebred dogs.

Community Involvement:

My work has been noted in International and National publications as excellent examples of websites created specifically for the Dog Community.  I am a Member of the Canadian Kennel Club, Member and Webmaster for the National Pekingese Club of Canada and a member of numerous professional organizations.  I moderate breed and all breed show mailing lists, including the Brussels Griffon Forum mailing list and, regionally, the Maritime Show Dog list.

Small Business Owner:

As a small business owner, I have created and operate three businesses dedicated to the purebred dog community and small businesses such as my own: sbmprodos.org (webdesign); Loving Kindness Pet Bereavement (pet bereavement).  My other guilty pleasures are following golf, historical architecture, pedigree databases, research and expanding my ever growing Pekingese and Brussels Griffon collection.

Education:

I hold  a BFA majoring in 17C Japanese Indigo and Papermaking.  In 2002, I left an MA Thesis "The History of Dogs in Atlantic Canada" at the annoyance of my thesis advisor to pursue an intensive Multimedia Diploma in IT.  I am the first recipient of Certificate of Counselling Excellence from The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement and the first North American designated PBSS Qualified Provider of Pet Bereavement Support, Level III from The Blue Cross (UK) and the only individual holding these two advanced pet bereavement certificates.
